As you know, the realities of the downturn have hit home and I am forced to introduce the following cost-cutting measures to help shore up our beloved company. I know you will understand that the pain is temporary and the gains will be there for all of us to reap when the company comes through these difficult times stronger... and ready to ride the next big wave. So with immediate effect, all staff will be required to adhere to the following:

a. The cups on the two vending machines are to be recycled. Annabelle has already sterialised them.

b. Sabbatical leave: Executives booked for New York will now go to Kukup in Johor Bahru instead. Senior executives can go further - up to Yong Peng.

c. Our chalet lease in Pulau Ubin has ended. However, as the management takes a keen interest in staff welfare, we have arranged with Francis (from Admin Dept) to rent out one of his rooms at Blk 923, Pasir Ris Drive. His flat was chosen for its proximity to the sea and you can still see Ubin from the window.

d. Entertainment claims: Staff will be required to go for a 30-min demonstration by Raj from Finance Dept, who will show you how to withdraw your credit card slowly from your wallet (58 secs), so that others at a business lunch will inadvertently beat you to it when the bill comes.

e. The Valentine's Day white chocolates (Deluxeur) which I gave out in January : Those of you who have yet to open the box, please return them (expiry date: Dec 2009).

f. Monthly Best Employee Award : The $1000 cash award will now be replaced by a box of Deluxeur white chocolates.

g. Annual Best Employee Award : The 14-day Disneyland/Hawaii tour and solid gold Rolex Oyster watch will be replaced by TWO boxes of Deluxeur white chocolates.

h. Medical: The Oxfordshire-Hopkins Medical Group will no more be on our panel. Annabelle will give you the address of Hong Tong Hong Medical Hall in Sungei Road. Bring your company pass for a 10% discount.

i. Country Club Memberships : Senior executives must return their membership cards to Annabelle, who will then register your name with Bishan Community Centre.

j. Transport Allowance : No reduction of rate! However, it will be paid on alternate months.

k. Gifts for clients : New choices. The Bohemian Crystal list will be replaced by the one from 7-eleven.

l. Annual Dinner & Dance : No change (March 20, yay!), but the venue is switched from The Ritz-Carlton to the void deck of Annabelle's flat in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.

m. Bonus : This time, staff welfare comes first! Instead of the usual amount, we raised it up to $2 million. Each employee will be given a Singapore Sweep ticket. The draw is on March 5.

Lunch with Class 95

As promised, here’s the post on our lunch with the Class 95 celebrities…

Firstly, I'll have to mention that this lunch is all thanks to Sheryl and her originality which won her + us (her lucky colleagues) a scrumptious lunch at KHA. KHA serves Modern Thai Cuisine and we had a really fulfilling (full+filling) time. Close to 3 hrs to be exact.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, Sheryl entered this contest organised by Class 95 and was to write a 1-liner on why she loves to listen to Class 95. Her answer, greatly applaud by Mr Mah, was........... ‘Simply because Class 95 has Singapore’s best mix of music!’.

We wish you were here......

Out of pure fate and coincidence,

After a 1.5 hour flight from Brisbane to Sydney by Huixin
After a 8 hour drive from Sydney by Yuxuan....
After a 12 hour drive from Melbourne by the Kow
And after a 2 hour flight from Brisbane to Canberra by Miaorong

Finally.... the 6 of us here in Australia gathered together ALSO on a sat night (30 Aug 08) and celebrated our 2nd year anniversary. It was a great to know that although we were apart by thousands of miles, we actually celebrating this very same anniversary under the same (but much colder) night sky.

The sweet date pudding we had wasn't too impressive, but it was all the restaurant had that we could use as an anniversary cake.

and just like that, another year has zoomed past again.

Nadyne's Farewell

Our Retain Queen's Farewell was a blast. Although on her last day at PwC, she had lunch with 3 other people at Amoy. At least she had a chance to savor her local fare before she leaves.

For her official farewell yesterday night though, 16 people turned up to give her a rousing farewell. Its an attendance which I think will not be repeated for the next 3 years at least. Our Retain Queen face is quite big after all. See below for the activities.

First we had dinner at the canteen beside Isetan and it was our first and "ahem - probably" last time eating there. Although the serviette was extremely thick and high classes, the servings prob resembled the local hawker fare at restaurant prices. We made our feelings plainly known to the owner by the way.

After dinner was one of our fav run activities which was KTV. Our room was extremely big as seen in the picture above.

Some highlights of the KTV yesterday night.
- We had a 10 min song sung by Hoi and Daniel
- We had a special Thai song from someone who came back from Thailand after attending to her personal matters.
- We also heard our 2 Angelas sing for the first time.
- We also had a melody of challenging 6 fastest and "get high" songs from Mayday and FIR. (which I doubt they wun even try on their concerts) A video was taken of that performance but it will not be posted due to copyright reasons.

With that we had went home but with our best wishes to Nadyne who is going to brisbanland. All the best and enjoy the pre-honeymoon.

Lastly, lets not forget our dear Trini who is also leaving us too. All the best for her future endeavours. All those in Suntec engagements next time please remember call her for lunch. :D

Time to say goodbye

As a regular contributor to this blog, I guess the best way to bid farewell to my lovely runmates is through an entry here. :)

Date: 4th September 2006, Monday

A bunch of fresh graduates, from NTU, SMU and Australian Unis were gathered together in a room on the 12th floor of P*C Building, listening intently to the Partners, HR and various instructors teaching us the "way of life as an auditor". We never looked back since.

You never expect people with such different backgrounds to bond together like 1 big family. But we did it.

We had fun outings to boardgame cafes;

Have drinks and play all sorts of silly finger guessing games;

KTV was our favourite past-time (Kster, 10 Dollar, KBox, Partyworld, Teo Heng);

Exploring the tranquils of Singapore on Pulau Ubin;

Midnight supper at East Coast Lagoon;

Celebrating our 1 year of surviving in audit;

And getting oh-so-comfy in our Pyjamas Bash.

And of course, other than meeting up every Friday for dinners, we also celebrate special occassions:

Like Christmas barbeque;

Mid-Autumn Festival;

Chinese New Year (with the traditional 'lo-hei');

and WTH, we even celebrated Leap Day! *LOL*

Of course, how can we missed out those fun times when it's absolutely FREE?? I'm sure there's no other company that gives its employees so many reason(s) to get HIGH and drunk :P

Well well, in case you were wondering "aren't they suppose to be working?" Of course, we do not show you pictures of us working, coz we were working TOO hard to be taking photos!! *wahaha*

This remarkable bond each of and everyone of us shared, intertwined our hearts and gave us fond memories.

In life, people come and go and they all leave for one reason or another. But it doesn't mean that we're leaving for good, coz once you're in the "Something Decent" Run, you'll always be a part of of us. :)

To all: Although the roads ahead may look daunting and weary, look deep inside your heart and find your passion for it is the only fire that will keep you burning.

I am thankful for all the great memories and photographs that I am left with to keep me company Down Under.

It has been a great pleasure documenting the bits and pieces of our shared memories in this blog and I will continue to post update of my new life there.

After a hard day at work, on the looong train-ride home, some random thoughts just floated around in my mind...

Topic: Durian VS Auditors

(Pls see below for some characteristics of durians and note how close to heart the characteristics are)

1. You either love them or hate them (NO neutral feelings)

2. Thorny on the outside, soft & vulnerable inside

3. Quality varies and the branding of source (i.e. D24 durian tree) is important

4. Bad seeds exists regardless of source

5. The sweeter the seed, the faster it'll be eaten up!!!

6. Each durian will leave the tree eventually (its just a matter of time)

7. Durians that leave their tree too soon are not worth very much (cause they are still unripe). Durians that leave too late bears the risk of rotting on the tree (and become completely worthless).

8. High turnover (this, i believe, is self-explanatory)

9. Durian always attempt to leave its tree quietly but the loud crack of the branch/final landing thud on the ground is inevitable (recall the last goodbye email u received).

10. Its very normal to find some bird shit on the husk of durians but too much shit will cause the durian to leave its tree prematurely (heavy burden)

To conclude, i thought of this phrase that I heard on FM93.3 quite some time back.....

Sorry for the super late updates.. we are doing fine over here and this week has been pretty slack so far.. its like 1pm and we are about to go shopping.

As usual, it was a quiet and cosy Friday night dinner with a litter of 'cats' aka 小猫几只 :P

Dinner was at Sweet Indulgence (Finally we got to go there) with 7 of us and a surprise appearance of Ms xxx.

I wouldn't say food was fantastic, coz Mr Lee JX was still hungry after gobbling down his chicken leg. He was ferociously staring at TY's fish n chips *LOL*

And as usual, a group shot to mark the event with MZD's new Samsung Omnia. And once again his trick of 'adjusting camera' while sheepishly taking candid shots of us has SUCCEED. *bleah*

Although it has been only 4 days since 1 July, nonetheless, a very big CONGRATULATIONS to everyone for becoming SA1!!!!

Poor me, alone in office on a Friday afternoon, suddenly there was huddle of footsteps and in come..........

the NEW BATCH of Associates!!!

Gosh they look so young, blur and innocent. Welcome to the REAL world man.. *hiaks*

Anyway, since our area has been decorated with loads of photos, lego bricks, quotes, newspaper clippings, all of them were so interested and start to look around! And I heard Bala telling them about their allocated seats....

Uh-oh! You all should know what I mean?? Not that i'm being mean, but i always LOVE our cosy corner. So in order to 'prevent' a certain 'mass invasion', Witchie and me have thought out some brilliant ideas to 'mark our territory' :P

1) Creat pseudo audit AWPs and place them on the tables

Witchie came out with this brilliant idea! We can set up AWPs with client names such as:

- TY Sporting Goods Pte Ltd
- Shu & Co Jewellery
- Witchie Witcrafts & Wizardry
- MY Entertainment Inc.
- Something Decent Foodstuffs
and the likes...

She said we can file our CYA in the AWPs to create the pseudo files! haha brilllllliant!

2) Personalise our workstations

Although we've put up so many of our pictures, sometimes people still dun get the hint. hahaha

So i think we can customize our workstations by putting mini-fans (work great during late nights, we'll need those when peak comes next year), water dispenser (save us some leg work to the water cooler), paper trays, small storage boxes for stationeries (sometimes B*l* is not around for our supplies in times of urgency).

Oh, i think they're probably briefed that those telephones with caller IDs are meant for managers, so they can't sit? We can put 'fake' caller IDs (jus put some cardboard with the telephone number or extn) on it, to look like it's for managers only. *wahahahaha*

This was the fastest Friday Run dinner we ever had!

When we stepped out of office, it was still bright day light. On normal Fridays, we would have just gotten back to office from client's place :P

And so although the staff strength has decreased significantly, a small group of us still met up for a farewell dinner for MZD.

Dinner was Spizza @ Club Street. We were the 2nd group of customers coz we arrived at 6.40pm??

And guess what? We polished off 2 large pizzas, 1 calamari and 1 pasta in 40min!!! This would not be possible if Mr Tu King was still around. hahaha :P

And we had fun trying to recount Clarice's 10 major boo-boos during the Redang trip!!! Pls inquire with MZD or Meiyan for more details ;)

Since it was wayyyy too early, we made our way to Sweet Indulgence @ Stanley Street (the street opp Parklane wanton mee) but they can't even accomodate the 6 of us.

So we went to Pitstop Cafe for games! MZD was so honoured to be at Pitstop from the start (our 1st gathering after our 2 wks Go Audit) to the end! Bravo!!!!

We had so many brainless games that we were really tickled to our bellies!!! And there was a game called Squint, where you are supposed to use cards to form into an object and let the rest guess.

First of all, want to thank all those who sent me off that day at the airport. Somehow I thought you all would have expected me to be late, but guessed I well exceeded that expectation. Either way, it was really great to see you all there. And for those who couldn't make it down, thank you nonetheless for your well wishes.

First out of the 5 Australia CAs people has taken his flight out to Melbourne as I typed.

A group of us were at T3 waiting for his GRAND arrival since 6+ pm and he finally arrived at a quarter to 10pm. And his flight was 1130pm.

And we waited till the Kow came..... FROM home. *hahaha*

Dear readers,

Congrats!! If you are reading this post, you have successfully survived half of peak*!!
(* Setting end Mar as our finishing line)

Based on C.A.K.E, it is at this critical point of time that our mind will be filled with all forms of 'negative thoughts'. Thoughts of leaving for greener ($$) pastures, thoughts of self-doubt and thoughts of striking toto so as to live happily ever after etc.

Please be assured that this is perfectly normal#.

However, please also be warned that the next 1.5 months* will be even more strenuous due to our rapidly decreasing level of enthusiasm and energy with each passing working day/hour/second.

Our dear (fake) Partner hard at work. Right. Please give us another increment and a big, fat, huge bonus next year.

In case most of you didn't know, our dear Li-leen's leaving the firm early next month. And there was a sudden mad rush to want to take photos with her. But sadly, she didn't want to oblige me
:( I don't understand.... u see, i'm tall, tan, slim, got sharp nose.... oops! But I'm not *ahem*

She claims she doesn't like taking photos. Ok la, after that we got so bored in office, we forced her to take photos with us. As you can see, whenever the camera's about to flash, people rush in from the ends of the world just to be in it.

These lucky 3 managed to get some private moments with her... w/o the crowd.

I like this shot a lot.. it was candid. Everyone was waiting for Zhong Da to get the timer on the camera ready and we unanimously posed for quite a good "bored" photo.

And then the first group photo of the night.

About dinner.

The unfriendly few who didn't want to eat ta-bao-ed Thai Express with us. Ok la.. forgive u guys on the account of the seaweed shaker fries.

And for the rest of us? We ordered dinner late (at bout 7.30pm). By the time we got our food, we were famished and so totally bored of hanging around the office.

Finally at 9.10pm, our food came. See the happy faces.

Nadyne's previous post was great... but it didn't do any justice to the ultra huge turnout we had at dinner & Thumper last Friday.

It's amazing how we can have 21 people for dinner at Fish & Co., 25 people at Thumper and the strong remaining 11 for supper at River Valley.

I can't believe 1 year jus zipped by so quickly... I can still remember the last Christmas bash we had at DXO and 2 "un-identified" (no names named) bodies were found being carried out.

Luckily, we left this task to our fellow juniors (no names named again!) and everyone had a good enough time, although the place was really crammed and dancing on the floor was kinda like a match of jostling with each other and see who eventually has a bigger a*s or arms. :P

D&D Preparation... posters, whistles and many more. On Friday, I was on OA to 14th floor (go see my retain). How apt.. did OA for our dear RUN... preparing the posters and such. Hahah..

Here are the early birds... in office early in the morning (shocked to see that there's no one around) and also the fortunate few who reached the hotel early enough to have a good shower and a couple of minutes lying on the clean, white, fluffy bed. Sorry we missed Nunn out of the picture... think she was showering or sth. Ooops! Hahha...

And finally, the highlight of the night... receiving the prize on stage with Marcus and Chee Kar. It was a real great feeling watching our very own home-made video on big screen and witnessing the live reactions of the audience. Fantastic!

As the office trendsetting goes on, the latest craze to hit the run is now Pacman. In fact, it has been so popular that it has over taken "making fun of clarice" as the favourite past-time. Just what to people have to say?

Mr Horse: "Its all about braging rights..."

Beiyan: "Even my maid Maria got 40+k, I must be higher than her"

Nadynria Unchana-Uejongmani Pon was too busy to comment during the time of interview as she was screaming away over a game of Pacman.

Rumour has it that a particular mysterious giant gorilla has been making use of people's account to set new highscores. Investigation has revealed that it has recently been making use of Maria's account.

Photos sent in by our roaming reporters (as seen below and above) have demonstrated that this Pacman war is taking on new heights, as members of the run find new ways to set high scores.

As the war rages on, it seems that high scores will be broken, egos will be shattered and relationships might be developed. Who will be crowned Pac-King/Queen/it? Only time will tell....
