环岛吃吃吃

Here's the overdue post of our 8th month celebrations.

The plan for the evening went like this.

Planned route for the evening (in order):
1. Old Airport Road
2. Bedok 85
3. Kaki Bukit 511
4. Changi Village
5. Geylang
6. Boon Lay Nasi Lemak (since we have to fetch the westies home too)

Here's how the evening went:

6.30pm: Theresa calls Yongxiang to check if he's on the way home to get the car. Yongxiang answers the phone and says "yes, i'm on my way home and i'll reach office bout 7.15pm thereabout." (altho we didn't know whether "on the way" meant "i just left my client's place")

7pm: Theresa calls Yongxiang again to see if he has gotten the car and left home. No answer.

7.15pm: Theresa calls Yongxiang once again to see if he has gotten the car and left home. No answer again.

7.30pm: The rest in office calls Yongxiang to find out where he is. No answer.

7.45pm: Yongxiang calls. Says he'll be reaching in 5 to 10 min.

7.50pm: Everyone gathers at the lobby and waits for the 2nd car to arrive.

8pm: 2nd car arrives and 11 hungry pple head off to the first stop of the night - Old Airport Road. Wheeee....

Due to the massive jam, we reached our first stop only at 8.45pm :( We were almost going to die of hunger... Luckily the not-too-bad food made up for it.

Food stop #1 - Old Airport Road

We reached so late that Daniel, who said will only be joining us "halfway", was actually able to join us from the start of the food trip. Woweee.....

Anyways, food was not too bad... esp the shrimp chee cheong fun. Food we ate here: wan ton mee, char kway teow, chee cheong fun and suan mei sugarcane drink.

Food stop #2 - Bedok 85

Yummmmmy fooood. We had sambal stingray, juicy chicken wings, orh lua and ah balling tang yuan of assorted flavours (peanut, sesame, red bean, yam and green tea). The most popular flavour: peanut, followed by sesame. We didn't order the bak chor mee cos reliable sources claimed that the one at 511 was better. And so, we headed off to 511 specifically to try their bak chor mee.

Food stop #3 - Kaki Bukit 511

This place is famous not only for their bak chor mee, but also their western food and pau (yum!) By this time, some were pretty full and so we decided to take a short break before our next food stop. And here's what happened.

Detour - Sea Sports Centre (just outside NSRCC)

Miscommunication cost us quite a couple of minutes. This was us waiting by the road for the 3rd car... so that we could stop them if we spotted them along the way.

Finally..... everyone gathered together.

After "detouring" for more than half an hour, we continued with our plan and headed back to Changi Village.

Food stop #4 - Changi Village

Unsuccessful. All the famous stalls were closed by the time we reached :(

Food stop #5 - Geylang

You can always count on Geylang to be open at the wee hours of the morning. We headed straight for the tau huay stall.

After tau huay, we had beef hor fun at the stall next to it... altho by this time, they still had the beef but no hor fun :S Ended up eating bee hoon and crispy noodles instead. Sorry no pics of the dishes... we were all too busy eating to remember. Haha..

Anyways, we didn't continue with the remaining part of the plan cos it was already 2am and everyone was beginning to zone out.... Yep, so that sums up our very first huan dao chi chi chi. Think there'll be more to come.

Who says food in Singapore is boring?
