Lunch

one fine day last week, the auditors decided to lunch together.

someone suggested this indian restaurant @ ocean building...

CLOSED!

then, someone else suggested chicken rice @ clifford pier...

CLOSED TOO!

and when someone suggested green curry rice, we thought we can finally settle down...

CLOSED THREE!

so, we ended up @ Hans.

next time, when u ask someone(s) for places to lunch, think twice (or shud i say THRICE?). u may be asking the (very) wrong person(s).

hahaha.

Why you shouldn't marry an auditor

Posted on behalf of Sheryl. Thanks for the farni email that brightens up my day! :)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Article --- Marry an auditor !? You'll find it funny (only if you have some accounting background / concept)

I have a professional woman as my wife; a Chartered Accountant. She uses LIFO method while taking out the refrigerated food.

She thinks I am no good with numbers. Fine with me, for now she handles the budget of the house. Initially she used to send me a bill at the month end, but when I told her that I am not her client but her husband, she asks for the money in advance. The expenses had been rising steadily over the months, so one day I snooped into the papers maintained in a current file.

No wonder! She was charging mileage and overtime to the house budget. She is crazy, I tell her but she corrects me. No honey, I am the auditor. I fail to see the light.

Every scrap of the paper in our house is filed. She tells me as per some Ordinance she must keep a copy of every thing for at least ten years before destroying it. I am worried.

The other day we had an hour-long fight. Later, I got to know that she had charged that hour to a client of hers, in the time sheet. My time was put down as unoccupied.

She says that she loves me and I tell her that I love her too. However, she never believes me. She says that there is susceptibility of it being a misstatement. Duh! She wants my representation on this!

Last year our house accounts got a qualified opinion I had not kept the supporting etc. of my purchases. Not a long time back my brother's wedding was to be solemnized. Wedding cards had been sent.

After some time I started receiving a steady trickle of letters. I was puzzled until my wife explained that external evidence was more reliable. She had called for confirmations from all those to whom cards were sent.

When she cooks: my wife at times does not go by recipe. Where the recipe says add half-teaspoon vinegar, one tsp black salt or one teacup of water, she ignores them. She says that they are not material when taken in context of whole meal being prepared.

She is crazy, I tell you. Surprisingly everybody calls her an auditor, instead. I checked the dictionary and it did not state that auditor is a synonym for crazy. The dictionary must be outdated.

When we got married, she had given me an Engagement Letter and I had said how cute-how sweet. Now she gives it to me every year saying that her standards state that it must be sent a new if there is any indication that I have misunderstood the objective and scope of engagement. Huh!
Apart from sending me the engagement letter once again she says I can't get rid of her just like that. She says that she has the right of being heard before I appoint some one else.

Phew! For a minute, I thought that we had jeopardized our going concern status. Duh! Dare I say so??

I am told by one of my female colleagues who is married to a CA that the scenario is even worse when the guy is a CA. Apparently he capitalized the wedding expenses as preliminary expenses and is writing it off every year. Also the time he spent dating his wife before marrying her is still under consideration for valuation... valuation of intangible assets.

So guys please think twice....should u really marry a CA? and yes please discount it by the appropriate rate to arrive at the present value of the risk of doing so !!!!!!!

we are connected!

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. What food might this contain?"
The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap. Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning.
There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"
The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose." So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout them house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.
But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.
The farmer's wife did not get well, she died. So many people came for her funeral; the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack ! in the wall with great
sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

You are special- Don't EVER forget it

Sometimes we just need to be reminded!

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.

He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who stillwants it?"
Still the hands were up in the air. Well, he replied, "What if I do this?"
And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.
"Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air. My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson.

No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.
Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and grounded into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.
We feel as though we are worthless.
But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value.

Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who LOVE you.
The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE
ARE and WHOSE WE ARE.

You are special- Don't EVER forget it."

My Boss and I

Something that I noticed at my client's place.. enjoy..

My Boss & I

When I take a long time, I am slow.
When my Boss takes a long time, he is thorough.

When I don't do it, I am lazy.
When my Boss doesn't do it, he is busy.

When I do something without being told, I am trying to be smart.
When my Boss does the same, that is initiative.

When I please my Boss, I am apple-polishing.
When my Boss pleases his Boss, he is co-operating.

When I do good, my Boss never remembers.
When I do wrong, my Boss never forgets.

Responsible auditors wanted!!

An alert member of the public tipped off Simon Says on noisy and rowdy auditors around DXO area last Friday night. It was understood that the place was booked for an unnamed reputable international auditing company’s Christmas bash and things might have spiraled out of hand due to the amount of free alcohol being dished out.

Mr Cow*, a member of a group of auditors who called themselves Run 2 spoke out, “Actuarry, there were only 2 people that got rearry drunk that night loh. I tried my very best to stop them from drinking but there was no way I can stop them sia. I was lucky to escape without a ba-lu-ku from my efforts leh.”

One of the 2 drunkards, Ms Beiyan* defended herself, “Some guy from Run 1 challenged me loh. A guy leh. Can you imagine that?” Ms Beiyan* took a swig from a Chivas bottle before continuing, “Please loh. One guy only. Underestimate me issit? I ate medicine before accepting his challenge ok? Gave him a handicap, don’t say I bully guy ok? Anytime want rematch anytime come and look for me. I’ll be in the office pantry waiting.”

A concerned auditor, Mr Yixuan* expressed his opinions, “Actually there is nothing wrong with a good night out, the MOST important thing is that the girls must be well taken care of by a responsible man who is willing to provide Mrs Beiyan*, I mean the girls with fresh clothes and a warm bed at his place.” Mr Yixuan* sneaked a glance at Ms Beiyan* before clarifying hastily, “Of course there was no hanky-panky involved. I am a responsible man.”

Some dismissed the notion that the auditors got out of hand during the night. Some even speculated that it was disgruntled clients of the reputable audit company who were out to take revenge. Speculations were rifled as to what actually happened that night.

The police commented that the case is still under investigation.

Truth be told....

Its amazing that after an exciting night of nearly 6 hours...so little was metioned of so much.

At least 60 shots of tequila pop were downed....
At least 50 tissues were used cleaning up.....
At least 40 beautiful photos were taken.....
At least 12 different people drank with Junxian.....
At least 10 girls still looked pretty when they left.....
At least 9 glasses of alcohol were drank by the floor.....
At least 8 people were busy sending ******* home.....
At least 7 buttons were unbuttoned on the dance floor..... (dun ask me whose)
At least 3 plastic party hats were filled with stuff..... (dun ask what the stuff is)
At least 2 people wore other people's clothing..... (dun even ask who)
At least 1 crazy wacko run really had a good time when they let loose

And as one person's msn nick had described it so appropriately:
"A fun but really messy xmas bash"

Sometimes, its really these messy sights that we would remember a few years down the road, just to remind us of how much fun we had...... as a run. Happy 3rd monthiasary to my beloved run.

Tankyew

Thank you all. That's was a wonderful dinner and of course, it was wonderful because of wonderful company. Most of us had been from the same university *ahem* and some of us even went all the way back to secondary school. I am lucky to know all of you guys. Believe me, our journey together does not end here, it will go on.

On an unrelated note, I have various questions raised from all quarters regarding this phrase "thanks for all the fish". Allow me to explain. In the famous (I can see it is not THAT famous) science fiction book "The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy", that phrase was a message left by the dolphins (cause dolphins are smarter than human) when they departed Planet Earth just before it was demolished to make way for a hyperspatial express route (geddit? Dolphins are saying bye to the humans and thanking them for feeding them fish all these while).

In other words, it is a humorous (I can see that the joke is lost) way to say goodbye.

Don't take my words for it, check out the link if anyone is interested to know more about that book:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/So_Long,_and_Thanks_for_All_the_Fish

Anyway, have a terrific weekend! =)
